Elementary School Build-a-Bill

Congress writes the laws for everyone in the United States of America. Pretend you're a member of Congress! What law would you write?

build-a-bill form imageHow to Build Your Own Bill:

To write a law, you have to first write it down as just an idea, called a bill. Then you convince the other members of Congress to vote for your bill.

  1. Give your bill a number. That's how Congress keeps track.
  2. Give your bill a name.
  3. What do you want your bill to do?
  4. Why is it a good idea?

When you are ready to begin, click here or on the picture to open the form.

Your Build-a-Bill form will open in a new window for you to begin. Instructions are in yellow and will not print when your print your bill.

You can SAVE your bill to work on it later, PRINT your bill, and EMAIL it to Congresswoman Bean when you are ready. If you have a problem when you EMAIL your bill, click here.

If you are a teacher looking to add Build-a-Bill to your curriculum, please contact Outreach Coordinator Donna Riley at 847-517-2927.

You can ask a parent or teacher to help you make your bill. A sample bill is shown below:
