Starting with the invention of transistors, semiconductors and the integrated circuit, the technology age has now infiltrated everything from automobiles to washing machines, increasing the ease and enjoyment of our day to day activities. The Federal government has recently taken significant steps to ensure these advances are not stifled by threats of identity theft, Internet spam and cybercrime.

Cell Phone Number Portability
Do you like your cell phone number, but dislike your service? With new FCC regulations, you can now keep your phone number when changing carriers. This service, Wireless Local Number Portability, went into effect November 24 in the top 100 Metropolitan areas.
Do Not Call List
Are you annoyed by telemarketers calling all day and night? Sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry and eat dinner in peace.
Please see this advisory to learn about what recourse you have against negligent telemarketers. And remember, the Do Not Call list is only updated every three months, so expect a certain lag time after registering your phone number.
Identity Theft
Identity Theft is one of the most personal and most damaging crimes inflicted against a person. To protect your identity, never give out your Social Security number needlessly; change passwords and PIN numbers frequently; and only release personal information or use your credit card on trusted Internet sites.
