WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) announced today that he will attend a ceremony in Stuttgart on Friday, November 11, 2005 at 1:00pm to unveil over $790,000 in federal funding for Arkansas' agriculture community. The grant recipient, Izon Agri Monitoring Systems, Inc., will use the funds to promote a new technology throughout Arkansas' 25 delta counties that will provide farmers with tremendous savings on fuel and water.
The Izon Inc. grant was the largest grant awarded this year to a private enterprise by USDA's National Rural Conservation Service. These funds will create significant savings throughout the Delta where farmers continue to struggle from the summer's severe drought and record-high fuel prices. According to Izon’s CEO, Stacey McPherson, farmers who purchase the technology will receive text message on their cell phone, pager, or laptop to alert them anytime a water pump turns off. This will prevent farmers from traveling long distances each day to check on water levels which will generate savings on water, fuel, and labor costs. In 2005 tests, farmers who used the technology saved 91% of the cost of monitoring their wells.
