WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) issued the following statement today after President George W. Bush nominated White House Counsel Harriet Miers to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the U.S. Supreme Court.
"With the nomination of Harriet Miers to the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Senate must begin the critical process of determining whether Ms. Miers is an appropriate candidate to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. I encourage those in the U.S. Senate to carefully consider this nomination, but to do so in an efficient manner."
"Justice O'Connor played a pivotal role on the U.S. Supreme Court and will be remembered for her determination to overcome social barriers. I am hopeful the U.S. Senate works together to ensure that Ms. Miers intends to defend and uphold the U.S. Constitution with the same integrity as Justice O'Connor exhibited throughout her career." |
