FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—February 26, 2008– Washington, D.C. –
The Federal Interagency Task Force on the Guam Military Build-up concluded its third meeting in Washington, D.C. this afternoon. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne, who chaired the meeting, signed grant awards at the conclusion of the meeting committing discretionary federal funds to the Government of Guam in the current fiscal year. Governor Camacho received the grants for the Guam Memorial Hospital, the Department of public Health and Social Services, and the Guam Community College.
Secretary Kempthorne awarded federal grants to Governor Camacho for the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) in the amount of $5 million from Compact-impact funding; $500,000 for the Guam Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHSS), and $443,000 in operation and maintenance funds for improvements in workforce investment programs at the Guam Community College.
“Secretary Kempthorne’s actions today demonstrated his commitment to assisting Guam throughout this process. I commend him for his leadership of the Interagency Group on Insular Areas (IGIA) and I look forward to working with him to ensure that Guam receives the federal assistance we need for the military buildup to be successful for our community,” Congresswoman Bordallo said.
