Guam Artist, Nilo Colitoy, Joins Art Winners in Washington
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—June 28, 2007–Washington, D.C–
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo welcomed high school artists and their parents from around the nation today for the official ribbon cutting of the 26th Annual Congressional Arts Competition, “An Artistic Discovery”.
“The Congressional Arts Competition, ‘An Artistic Discovery’ is a time-honored tradition in that not only showcases the talent and creativity of some of our nation’s most gifted young artists, but it also serves to promote the arts to our youth,” Congresswoman Bordallo said.
Congresswoman Bordallo co-chaired this year’s event with Congressman Luis Fortuño of Puerto Rico.
Congresswoman Bordallo was joined today by Nilo Colitoy, a soon-to-be-Senior at Simon Sanchez High School, and his mother Maria, who made the long journey to Washington D.C. to attend the ceremony. Nilo won Guam’s Art competition in May this year.
“Nilo is a very talented young artist,” Congresswoman Bordallo said. “His artwork captures the beauty and spirit of our island and his technical expertise is among the best of our nation’s young artists.”
The annual competition, entitled, “An Artistic Discovery” is open to every Congressional district in every state and territory in the nation. Nilo’s art piece will be displayed in the Capitol tunnel for an entire year alongside over 380 winning pieces from other districts. These art pieces are seen and appreciated by hundred of thousands of visitors from around the world during that time.
