Bordallo to host town hall meeting on Military Build-Up; Will be Joined by Insular Subcommittee Chairwoman Christensen
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—August 10, 2007–Hagatna, Guam–
Congresswoman Bordallo today announced that she will host a town hall meeting on the U.S. military buildup of Guam at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 16, in the Hilton’s Micronesia Ballroom. Congresswoman Bordallo will be joined by Congresswoman Donna Christensen (D-VI), chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Insular Affairs.
“The impending military buildup on Guam is a source of both excitement and concern in our community and this is why Chairwoman Christensen chose to have the first Congressional hearing on this matter on Guam,” Congresswoman Bordallo said. The Insular Affairs Subcommittee’s field hearing will take place on Monday, August 13, at the University of Guam. “I believe Chairwoman Christensen is already getting a good sense of our people’s feelings. She is a dear friend of Guam and is sensitive to how the military buildup will affect the island.”
“I am concerned that, because witnesses are by invitation only, the people of Guam are under the impression that Monday’s hearing is not open to the public,” Congresswoman Christensen said. “I want to make it abundantly clear that anyone can attend the Subcommittee’s hearing and I want to encourage anyone who wishes to submit their comments to do so. Written statements from the hearing and this town hall meeting will be made part of the official hearing record.”
