Bordallo Mourns the Loss of Major Henry Ofeciar
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—August 30, 2007– Washington, D.C. –
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo issued the following statement in honor of the late U.S. Army Major Henry “Hank” Ofeciar, formerly of Talofofo.
“I join our community in mourning the loss of Major Henry Ofeciar, a soldier who loved his island and his country. We pray for his family and we share their grief as we remember this son of Guam who paid the highest price for our freedom.
“Major Ofeciar was a soldier who inspires us with his selfless dedication. We owe him and all who have lost their lives in this war our deepest gratitude.”
According to the official notification from the Department of the Army, Major Ofeciar died on August 27, 2007 from injuries sustained in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, when his vehicle received small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.
Major Ofeciar was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.
