Midshipman Tenorio Selected as Battalion Commander at the Naval Academy Preparatory School

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—September 13, 2007 Washington, D.C.

Jonathan Tenorio, U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) Midshipmen Candidate, has recently been chosen as the Battalion Commander for the Class of 2008.

As Battalion Commander, Tenorio is responsible for supervising and overseeing routine operations of the entire battalion, which consists of 256 Midshipmen and Cadet Candidates at the campus in Newport, Rhode Island. Tenorio will serve as Battalion Commander until the end of November.

Tenorio received the appointment on August 25, 2007, upon completing the NAPS Indoctrination Training Readiness Operation (NITRO), a team building exercise that tests and challenges each Midshipman and Cadet Candidate.  NITRO is the final exercise of NAPS Indoctrination.  A pinning ceremony follows, in which candidates don their uniforms and their NAPS insignias for the first time.

“This is a position of great responsibility and Midshipman Candidate Tenorio’s appointment as the battalion commander at NAPS is an indication of his leadership potential,” Congresswoman Bordallo said. “We are excited to see Jonathan earn the confidence of the administration at NAPS and we look forward to his continued achievements at the Naval Academy next year and in his Naval career.”

Jonathan is the son of Joseph and Tammy Tenorio of Mangilao.  He is a 2004 graduate of George Washington High School, and had attended the University of Hawaii in 2005-2006.  Jonathan Tenorio was nominated by Congresswoman Bordallo for the Naval Academy and he received his appointment to the Naval Academy Prep School in April 2007.
