Guam International Airport Authority Lands
$6.8 Million Grant to Improve Utilities
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—September 4, 2007– Washington, D.C. –
Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today said the Guam International Airport Authority will receive a discretionary grant of $6.8 million from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). The grant will provide federal funding for phase five of a project to replace and upgrade the water supply system at the Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport. The project consists of the installation of one 0.75-million gallon and two 1.5-million gallon water reservoirs, two granular activated carbon systems, and three wells. The funding will help improve water pressure for fire protection and air conditioning as the existing water line infrastructure is aging and needs to be replaced and upgraded to prevent frequent water utility outages.
“I want to congratulate the Guam International Airport Authority for working with the Federal Aviation Administration to secure these grant funds. Our International Airport is critical to our economic growth and improving necessary infrastructure at the airport is critical to ensuring continued success in the transportation services and visitor industries on our island,” stated Congresswoman Bordallo.
The Guam International Airport is a primary regional airport serving over 200,000 passengers per year and cargo needs between Guam and the United States mainland, Asia, Australia and various islands in the Pacific region. As the westernmost territory of the United States, Guam is internationally known as "Where America's Day Begins" and here in the western Pacific as the "Gateway to Micronesia."
