Congresswoman Bordallo’s
Statement on the
President’s Decision to Use Force to Disarm Iraq
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 17, 2003
– Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo released
the following statement regarding the President’s March 17, 2003,
address to the nation concerning Iraq:
• The President spoke with authority when he reaffirmed his commitment
to defend this nation. He has tonight made clear the need to bring
an end to the threat that Saddam Hussein poses to the security of
the United States and our allies in the region.
• In these times of great uncertainty, I want to express my support
our men and women in uniform and thank them for their service to
our country. During the military build up in the Middle East our
troops have endured many hardships and it is certain that the hardest
task they face lies ahead in the coming days. They are well trained
and equipped for the task at hand and I am sure they will swiftly
and successfully conclude their mission, should Saddam Hussein fail
to seize this final opportunity for peace by leaving Iraq.
• As they have done proudly throughout history, the people of
Guam stand ready to play their part in keeping America safe and
secure. I join with them in praying for the safety of friends and
loved ones serving in the Middle East.
• As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will continue
to monitor events in Iraq closely, and am sure that we will prevail.
However, we must prepare ourselves for a long period of engagement
in the Middle East that will help bring the democracy, which we
here so strongly value, to that troubled region.
