Congresswoman
Bordallo Announces $7.47 Million
to Local Law Enforcement for Terrorism Prevention
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
September 25, 2003 – Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman
Bordallo announces that Congress has passed the FY 2004 Department
of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill, which includes a $4.25
million grant for Guam. The funds will be used to better assist
local public safety and law enforcement personnel to help them prevent,
prepare and respond to terrorism. The funding will be available
through the Office for Domestic Preparedness to assist local law
enforcement in Terrorism Prevention activities.
"These funds will help our
local law enforcement and first responders address the threat of
terrorism, given Guam's proximity to areas of concern in the Asia-Pacific
region and its vital national security assets," said Congresswoman
Bordallo.
The funding comes in addition to
a $3.22 million FEMA grant announced today, which was secured by
Guam's Department of Homeland Security for the improvement of its
Emergency Operations Center. The funding will be used this year
to purchase telecommunications equipment, improve interoperability
and corrective construction.
"I would like to congratulate
Guam's Department of Homeland Security on applying for this competitive
grant. This is an example of the assistance Guam can receive by
making a concerted effort to apply for federal grants," said
Congresswoman Bordallo.
