Department of Homeland Security Announces Grant
for All-Hazards Emergency and Terrorism Preparedness:
Guam Will Receive $589,350

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – December 18, 2003 – Washington, D.C. – The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will provide $173.5 million in grants to help states and territories prepare to respond to all-hazards preparedness activities and emergency management. Guam will receive $589,350 of this formula grant. These funds are a result of funding for the Emergency Management Performance Grants (EMPGs) program from the FY ’04 budget. The EMPG’s provide states the flexibility to allocate funds according to risk vulnerabilities and to address the most urgent needs in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

“These funds will help improve disaster response and recovery capabilities as well as support emergency planning and logistics for Guam’s first responders,” Bordallo said.
