Simon Sanchez High School Junior Wins Congressional Art Competition  

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—May 1, 2007Hagåtña, Guam

Congressman Madeleine Z. Bordallo is proud to announce that Mr. Nilo Ray C. Colitoy, an 11th-grader at Simon Sanchez High School, is the winner of this year’s Congressional Arts Competition.  Nilo and his watercolor painting of Talofofo Falls will travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the opening of the 2007 “An Artistic Discovery” exhibit and a banquet honoring other Congressional Arts Competition winners from throughout the nation.

“I understand that Mr. Colitoy will be making his very first trip to the States and is excited about seeing our nation’s capitol and all the things he has only seen in pictures,” the Congresswoman said.  “My staff and I are looking forward to making his visit a very memorable one.”

Mr. Jeffry Ejan, a senior at John F. Kennedy High School and student of art instructor Karen Howe, took second place.

Mr. Chris Merep, 10th grade, GWHS, Art Instructor: Tina Flores

Ms. Ashley Miller, 11th grade, NDHS, Art Instructor: Jack Shook

Ms. Jean Marie Nadres, 12th grade, SSHS, Art Instructor: Ron Canos

Ms. Christa Park, 11th grade, Academy of Our Lady of Guam, Art Instructor: Mary Kioshi

Mr. John Plaza, 10th grade, GWHS, Art Instructor: Linnea Smith

Mr. Zachary Toves, 12th grade, NDHS, Art Instructor: Jack Shook

Mr. Andrew Malilay White, 11th grade Home School

“I am most grateful to all the high school art instructors who encourage their students to compete in this contest, and to Continental Air Micronesia, the Guam Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities who not only wholeheartedly support this project, they make it happen,” the Congresswoman said.

Congressman Bordallo and Congressman Luis Fortuño of Puerto Rico are co-chairing the 2007 “An Artistic Display” for 110th Congress.
