Congresswoman Bordallo Reacts to President Barack Obama’s Address to Congress on Health Reform

House Passage on 2010 NDAA Expected Later Today

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 9, 2009 – Washington, D.C. –

President Barack Obama, this evening, addressed a joint session of Congress regarding his plans for comprehensive health care reform in America, as a way to provide health care for all Americans as well as controlling the growing cost of health care for those currently insured. Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo was in attendance at tonight’s speech and was joined by Terri Guavera Smith, originally of Ordot and now residing in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

“President Obama spoke eloquently and made a strong case for bringing security to Americans who have insurance today and affordable coverage to those who do not,” Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo said today. “As the Health Task Force Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, I am working with my colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to ensure that health care reform improves both the access and quality of care available to our communities, including the U.S. Territories. The President outlined a strong vision and he answered cynics who oppose any kind of reform.  I believe that he has reminded us of our commitments to our communities and I hope that we will be able to pass meaningful reform.”
