STATEMENT
Statement of Congressman Capuano Regarding the War in Iraq
April 16, 2003
Coalition forces encountered little resistance in Iraq, and American troops have captured Baghdad. I have had grave doubts about the President's approach to foreign policy. I understand the need, post 9/11, to anticipate threats to our security. I persist in my belief that military force should be a last resort. I do not see continued conquest as the means to resolve the many grave foreign policy challenges that remain: decreasing terrorism, limiting nuclear proliferation, or encouraging respect for human rights.
Although I opposed the President's rush to war, I strongly support our men and women in uniform who fought bravely and who still face danger. I hope that they will all return safely and quickly. My thoughts are with them and their families during these uncertain times.
