Statement on the Passing of Congressman Payne

“I am very saddened to learn of the passing of my esteemed colleague, Donald Payne. Over 12 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Don made it his mission to fight for those who were most in need, whether it be for people lacking access to education and medical care in the United States or victims of human rights abuses abroad. I was honored to serve with Don as a founding co-chair of the House Sudan Caucus. I learned a great deal from his passion for and dedication to the people of Sudan. Defenders of human rights everywhere have lost a champion today”.
