United
States Military Academy Appointments The United States Military Academies are all four-year liberal arts
institutions with extremely competitive selection processes. The academies include the following: the Air Force Academy; the Naval Academy; the West Point Military Academy; the Coast Guard Academy; and the Merchant Marine
Academy. A student who would like to attend one of these academies must apply directly to the academy and have a congressional nomination to be
considered for admission.
Applicants must apply to their local congressional representative for a
nomination to an academy. Congressman Chabot employs the competitive method of selection for academy nominees. This method allows the Congressman to nominate ten applicants
in no specific order to
each academy.
After the Congressman forwards the nominees to each military academy, the academies rank the respective nominees. Each academy selects the
highest-ranked nominee and offers them an appointment. As long as there is a
qualified applicant in the First District, Congressman Chabot is granted one
appointment to each of the service academies annually.
