| (Washington, DC) During the debate on the Foreign Operations Appropriations bill, Steve Buyer, a Republican Member from Indiana, offered an amendment to "insert at the end of the bill (before the short title) a new section stating that none of the funds made available in the Act may be used by any official of the United States Government to request the United Nations to assess the validity of elections in the United States."
Congresswoman Brown spoke on the Buyer amendment on the House floor, and Rep. Buyer strongly objected to her remarks. Since then, there have been numerous stories inaccurately reporting what took place in the House of Representatives on Thursday, July 15th. Although the House of Representatives took a vote to have her comments removed from the Congressional Record, Congresswoman Corrine Brown was not censured and did not lose her speaking privileges on the House floor. | |
