Nestled in north Georgia, the 9th District runs across the state
from Rockdale and Hall County in the south and east, up to North Carolina
and Tennessee and back down to Alabama on the west. This unique district
has become one of the boom areas of the state. From the Carpet industry
of Dalton to the Poultry industry of Gainesville, business is growing
rapidly in Georgia's 9th District.
History runs thick in the 9th District. It was once Cherokee Indian
country before they were sent westward to Oklahoma on the Trail of
Tears in the 1830s. Many historians claim America's first gold rush,
which occurred in the 10th district area in the 1820's, was a major
contributor to the Trail of Tears.
The gold rush towns soon turned into mill communities and suburbs
of Atlanta and Chattanooga. Numerous streams and rivers running into
man made lakes make tourism one of the top industries in the district.
Only a short drive from Atlanta, the cool mountains and lakes of the
9th District are a great escape from the summer heat of the city.
Thousands of tourists visit Lake Sidney Lanier every year.
Fifteen counties make up the 9th Congressional district of Georgia.
