Three-quarters of unmarried and widowed elderly women rely on Social Security for over half of their income. Any changes to Social Security must be thoroughly researched and carefully considered to maintain Social Security's guarentee of fiancial stability in old age. Congress and the President must be committed to ensuring that any reform proposal protects the financial security of women in their later years. This resolution recognizes the unique obstacles in ensuring retirement, survivor, and disability security for women, and the essential role that Social Security plays in guaranteeing inflation-protected finacial stability for women throughout their golden years. The bill calls on the Congress and the President to take these factors into account when weighing proposals to reform the Social Security system.
