House Passes Neighborhood Stabilization Act
5/9/08 - One in thirteen American families have fallen behind on their mortgage payments. If the struggling family on your block is foreclosed on—and an estimated 2 million American families will be—you’ll likely feel the effects. If your home is within an eighth of a mile, its value will drop by an average of $5,000. The current housing crisis is something that affects all of us, whether directly or indirectly. On May 8th, the House took action and passed H.R. 5818, the Neighborhood Stabilization Act.

IRS Timetable for Economic Stimulus Payments
5/1/08 - If you qualified to receive the economic stimulus payment, and filed your taxes by April 15th, you can expect to receive your payment within the next couple months. The IRS will distribute the payments based on social security numbers, and has provided a timetable to clarify when you should expect to receive the payment.

Cantwell, Dicks Introduce Legislation to Promote and Protect the Pacific Northwest Trail
4/30/08 - Press Release: U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Representative Norm Dicks (D-WA-06) introduced the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail Act of 2008, which will promote the protection and maintenance of the Pacific Northwest Trail. The 1,200 mile Pacific Northwest Trail, running from the Continental Divide to the Pacific Ocean, ranks among the most scenic trails in the world.

Norm Addresses SCA Volunteers at the EarthVision Summit
4/25/08 - Norm spoke at the EarthVision Summit, a conference of student volunteers from across the nation sponsored by the Student Conservation Association and the Interior Department to connect young people with environmental leaders from government agencies and national advocacy groups. The SCA played a key role in the cleanup of Mount Rainier after the November/December 2006 storms, allowing the park to reopen for the 2007 season on time.

National Park Service Centennial Challenge Announcements
4/24/08 - Norm spoke at the announcement ceremony for the first round of awards in the Centennial Challenge Initiative. Private businesses and agencies were challenged to match up to $100 million in federal funding per year to improve park facilities and services in preparation for the 100th anniversary of the park service in 2016.

Norm Participates in News Conference on Air Refueling Tanker
4/17/08 - News: Norm joined his Washington State colleagues to hold a news conference in Washington, D.C. with members of the Kansas delegation, and union leaders to call for an investment in America's workforce and aerospace defense industry, and to protest the Air Force's decision to award the air-refueling tanker contract to Northrop Grumman and Airbus parent company EADS.

Norm to Cosponsor the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act
4/11/08 - Norm is cosponsoring legislation that would substantially improve the educational benefits offered to our nation's brave men and women. H.R. 5740 would provide these benefits to all veterans who have served 3 to 36 months of qualified active duty since September 11th, 2001.
