Affordable Health Care for America Act Introduced in Congress 10/30/2009 – On October 29th, the Democratic Leadership introduced H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives. H.R. 3962 blends and updates the three versions of previous bills passed by the House committees of jurisdiction in July. Since that time, Congress received an unprecedented amount of feedback from the American people through town halls, emails, phone calls and faxes. The feedback I received from my constituents was greatly appreciated, and while there were differences in the details, the majority were overwhelmingly supportive of the need to improve quality, expand coverage, and contain the rising costs of health insurance. This bill, which I intend to support, would accomplish these goals. Below you will find a summary of the key provisions in the bill, and links to more resources.

Norm has long advocated comprehensive health care reform in this country as health care cost increases have outpaced inflation in recent years, affecting almost all U.S. businesses and leaving a large portion of the American population without any health care benefits. This year, one of the top priorities of the Obama Administration has been the adoption of a health care reform plan that maintains the quality and choices available in our current system but increases access and addresses the cost growth. Legislation is currently moving through various House committees of jurisdiction, with the intent of bringing a bill to the full membership of the House sometime this summer or fall. Read more... Summary: 2010 Interior and the Environment Appropriations 6/18/2009 – "On June 18th, the House Appropriations Committee approved the bill we passed last week in my Subcommittee. I am proud of the progress we have made in this bill at improving the visitor experience in our National Parks, which have declined in the past decade, as well as our wildlife refuge areas. In addition we are increasing the resources available from the EPA to help local communities improve their drinking water and wastewater systems, meeting the goals of the Clean Water Act. In this budget we are also taking a major step forward on addressing the pollution impacts in the nation’s major water bodies, including the Great Lakes, the Chesapeake Bay and Puget Sound. I am pleased that the bill our Subcommittee has approved includes $50 million for restoration projects in Puget Sound, placing our region’s cleanup effort on a par with the federal government’s participation in the Chesapeake Bay program. Following is a summary of the bill’s provisions. The Committee’s complete report will be available soon, and I will post a link to it as soon as it is published."
