Dingell Statement on Change in Command of Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort |
Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (MI-15), lead sponsor of legislation that would remove the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from the Department of Homeland Security, released the following statement on the change in command of the Hurricane Katrina relief effort: “Removing Michael Brown from direct command of the Hurricane Katrina relief effort is a step in the right direction. Director Brown’s reassignment doesn’t change the fact that we need to remove FEMA from the massive bureaucracy that is the Department of Homeland Security. I also believe we need an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the response to find what other breakdowns occurred in the days that followed Katrina. The problems with our disaster response ability are bigger than just one man.” |
