Roosevelt dies, Truman takes office.

Dingell graduates from Ft. Benning Infantry OCS Class 518.  During graduation all the cadets are told that they would be part of the invasion of Japan in November. 

8.6.1945 and 8.9.1945

U.S. drops atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Dingell has said that President Truman's decision to use the atomic bomb to end the war probably saved his life.
