Coalition for Autism Research and Education
Membership List by State
Dear Friends,
As you are aware, during the last session of Congress, Representative Chris
Smith and I founded and co-chaired the first-ever Autism Caucus, the Coalition
for Autism Research and Education (CARE). This bipartisan, bicameral
Congressional membership organization grew to 180 Members of Congress and
Senators from over 40 states by the end of the 107th Congress.
I want to personally thank each and every one of the parents, families, and
friends who are dedicated to not only educating Members of Congress on the
devastating effects of autism and related disorders, but are working to ensure
autism is at the forefront of the Congressional agenda.
Please be assured both Representative Smith and I will once again serve as
co-chairs of the Coalition for Autism Research and Education in this upcoming
session of Congress. As the 108th Session formally convenes the week of January
6th, 2003, we will invite all Representatives and Senators to join the Caucus.
Once a formal list is compiled, I will post it on this web page and update it as
new members are added.
The goals of the bipartisan Coalition for Autism Research and Education (CARE)
include increasing awareness of autism and related disorders among Members of
Congress and policy analysts on Capitol Hill, educating Members on current and
future research regarding autism, and providing a forum where autism related
policy issues can be debated and discussed. Additionally, CARE seeks to bring
together public, private, and government entities to help achieve and promote
these goals. CARE also will pursue legislative initiatives that will facilitate
advanced treatments and cures for autism related disorders, as well as promote
means to ease the burdens on families and loved ones affected by autism.
Finally, CARE will work closely with and monitor the Centers of Excellence
created under the landmark Children’s Health Act of 2000.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not
hesitate to contact my office or James Sharp of my staff at 202) 225-2135.
Sincerely,
Mike Doyle
Member of Congress
