Congresswoman Johnson is the highest ranking Texan serving on the House
Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. In that capacity, she has
helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding for national
air, water and land transportation programs. She has also been a staunch
advocate of Transportation Department programs designed to increase minority
vendor participation and programs targeting reduction of travel related
fatalities.
Congresswoman Johnson was appointed
to the Conference Committee which produced the landmark Wendell H. Ford Aviation
Investment Reform Act for the 21st Century , also known as AIR 21. The
legislation increases funding for airport construction and safety equipment by
$40 billion over three years. Upon its passage, Congresswoman Johnson heralded
the bill as a major step forward toward improving the traveling experience for
millions of Americans.
Congresswoman Johnson has also been
a leader in the development of mass transit, taking the lead in securing federal
support for projects such as Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) development. For
the first time, all Dallas area Congressional representatives and Texas U.S.
Senators supported DART's federal appropriations request this year.
Congresswoman Johnson remains a steadfast proponent of the kind of
cross-regional opportunity made possible only through affordable, convenient
public transportation. As more businesses move to the Dallas-Fort Worth
area, it is critical that the labor pool be afforded the necessary commuting
tools.
On the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Congresswoman Johnson chairs the
Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment and sits on the Subcommittees on Aviation
and on Railroads.
