Third District graduates appointed to service academies

Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers is commending nine Third District graduates who received appointments to attend three U.S. service academies. The recent high school graduates who received the appointments will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY.

“These nine young adults from my district are fulfilling a great service to their country by enrolling at the service academies they have been appointed to. I am proud to have nominated them, and I am certain that through their service, they will make our entire country proud,” said Ehlers of the appointments.

Congressman Ehlers is authorized to nominate candidates from the Third Congressional District to U.S. service academies. The institutions prepare college-age Americans to be officers of the United States uniformed services. Upon graduation, service academy graduates are commissioned as officers in the active or reserve components of the military, the merchant marine, or the U.S. Coast Guard for a minimum of five years.
