Emanuel, Chicago-Area Universities Unveil First-In-the-Nation Plan to Utilize New GI Bill, Send Veterans to College
Chicago, IL—Representatives from Chicago-area universities today announced policies that will make it easier for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to attend college in Illinois and succeed. In June, Congress passed a new GI bill that will provide full four year scholarships to veterans, but veterans still face unique challenges when attempting to enroll in college.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Representative Rahm Emanuel released the following letter encouraging Education Secretary Margaret Spellings to immediately implement legislation simplifying the federal student aid application process. This legislation was introduced by Emanuel as part of the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, which was signed by the President today.
