| Congressman Faleomavaega today announced that he has
been informed by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) that it has
approved a grant award for $238,900 on a proposal submitted by the American
Samoa Council on Arts, Culture, and Humanities. The NEA grants are
given to states, including the territories, in the form of Block Grants
as authorized by Congress to support arts and culture education programs
in under served communities. Each state or territory develops its
own program in consultation with the NEA.
Faleomavaega said, “I am very pleased to see our local council on
the arts and culture working in partnership with the schools and other
segments of our community to develop programs or activities that promote
the arts and culture in our territory.”
“I am also aware of the specific efforts taken by the council and
the Aiga Tautai o Samoa (Samoan Voyaging Society) to preserve and promote
Samoan traditional boat building and seafaring. This is a very deserving
effort and the organizations are to be commended for their dedication and
hard work,” Faleomavaega added. |
