| Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that Mr. Niclaus
Edgar Taula’i has accepted an appointment to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine
Academy in Kings Point, New York, for the class entering the Academy on
July 7, 2000.
Faleomavaega said, “Receiving an appointment to any of the service
academies is a much sought after honor and meeting the academic and physical
standards set forth by the academies is no easy task. I give a lot
of credit to Niclaus, his teachers, and especially to his parents.”
Upon graduating from the Merchant Marine Academy, which has an approximate
scholarship value of $130,000 for four years, Taula’i will receive an appointment
as an ensign in the U.S. Merchant Marine and a Bachelor’s degree to begin
his career.
Faleomavaega concluded by saying, “I am very happy for Niclaus and
his family, and I have no doubt that he possess the necessary qualities
needed to succeed at the Academy.”
Niclaus, a Senior at Robert G. Cole Junior-Senior High School in
Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is the son of Master Sergeant Maturo and Debbie
Taula’i of Fitiuta, Manu’a. |
