WASHINGTON, D.C.—NO CUTS MADE TO ASG’S OPERATIONS OR CIP FUNDING FOR FY2000

Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that the Department of the Interior was able to make the .38% cut in its overall budget without having to cut either ASG’s operations funding or its CIP money.
“I want to thank Secretary Babbitt and officials in the Office of Insular Affairs for their strong support of our federal funding,” said Faleomavaega. “In this period during which ASG is making efforts to balance its budget, it is welcome news that ASG will not also have to address a reduction in this year’s federal funding.”
Under an omnibus appropriations bill passed by Congress last month, each federal department’s budget was cut .38% from agreed to FY2000 levels, but each Secretary was given discretion within his department to cut any given program from zero to 15%.
