WASHINGTON, D.C.—ASG’S DEPARTMENT OF MARINE AND WILDLIFE RESOURCES GETS $95,000

Congressman Faleomavaega today announced that the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources (DMWR) in American Samoa is awarded another grant for $95,000 based on an application it submitted to the West Coast Fisheries Act Program administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The grant will allow the DMWR to collect, process, and prepare summary reports from fisheries data.  The DMWR also will provide these data to the National Marine Fisheries Service to support the implementation, evaluation and amendment of fishery management plans under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act under which the Congress authorized the funds.

“This grant will help improve our territorial efforts to gather relevant data so we can better manage and protect our fishery resources,” Faleomavaega said.  “Once again, I congratulate Director Ray Tulafono and the staff of the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources for the excellent work they have been doing for the territory in fisheries conservation.”

Faleomavaega added, “This is also DMWR’s second grant award received in two weeks and that is remarkable work.”
