WASHINGTON, D.C.—THREE SAMOAN WOMEN TO PARTICIPATE IN WORLD OLYMPICS

Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that he has been informed that three women Samoan athletes have qualified to participate in the Summer Olympic games in Sydney, Australia.

Ms. Seilala Su’a, a student at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) won the discus event at the recent national track and field trials and thereby qualified for the team.

“It is my understanding that there are two other women who have qualified for the Olympics,” said Faleomavaega.  “Ms. Lisa Misipeka will be representing American Samoa in the hammer throw, and Ms. Bernice Faumuina will be representing New Zealand in a field event as well.”

“This is the first time in history that three Samoan women athletes will be participating in the World Olympic games, and it shows again what Samoans can do with proper training,” concluded the Congressman.
