Caucus Announces Summary Report of First Annual Leadership Summit
The Congressional Modeling & Simulation Caucus is pleased to announce the findings of the National Training Systems Association (NTSA)
report of the First Annual Modeling and Simulation Leadership Summit held in Suffolk, Virginia earlier this year.
The summit brought together professionals from government, industry, and academia, all of who have a long-term interest in modeling and simulation.
Over 350 delegates gathered together to discuss and identify the strategic needs for the future advancements in the modeling and simulation industry.
Roundtable discussion groups were divided into four categories: Industrial Development, Business Practice, Professional Development and Technology. The roundtable discussions were considered a huge success among participants, and those present universally agreed that government, industry, and academia must share the burden of moving modeling and simulation forward.
Congressman Forbes (VA-04), in conjunction with the Congressional Modeling & Simulation Caucus, has already begun to implement recommendations included in the NTSA summary report of the event. Progress towards implementation of the recommendations will be reported in future newsletters. Additionally, Congressman Forbes will be discussing the Summit outcomes during the USJFCOM Industry Symposium on April 4th in Hampton, VA.
In summation, there were six action items that resulted from the summit:
Action 1: The Congressional M&S Caucus should assume an increasingly active role as the principal advocate for M&S policy and guidance, and adopt appropriate resolutions and/or appropriate entries into the Congressional Record to that end.
Action 2: The Congressional M&S Caucus should actively encourage the Administration to publicly acknowledge the importance of M&S.
Action 3: The Congressional M&S Caucus should seek to identify and provide funds to conduct a nation-wide survey to clearly identify the entire national M&S community of practice, its various constituents, and the national economic impact of M&S activity.
Action 4: The Congressional M&S Caucus should seek ways to offer incentives to industry and city and local governments to more actively use M&S tools to train emergency management personnel.
Action 5: NTSA/SISO/SCS -Organizations with vital interests in furthering the development of the M&S workforce must collectively charter research and development efforts to address the issues listed above. NTSA will lead this effort and will coordinate funding from industry partners for its execution.
Action 6: NTSA will recommend mechanisms to the M&S Caucus that would enable small businesses to overcome obstacles related to Verification, Validation and Accreditation, data access, organizational conflicts of interest, and reuse.
