Science Committee & M&S Caucus Partner to Discuss M&S Expansion on the Hill

On Tuesday, September 27, 2005, U.S. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert and the Congressional Modeling and Simulation Caucus co-hosted a briefing on the role of technology in transforming our nation’s infrastructure.  Some of the nation’s leading companies delivered a description of how new and emerging technologies can revolutionize the infrastructure and construction industries. These technologies could result in significant cost savings to government and the private sector.

During the briefing, several executives explained that technology has revolutionized a number of this nation's economic sectors bringing productivity increases undreamed of prior to the application of new technologies. 

Congressman Sherwood Boehlert, Chairman of the House Science Committee said, "The ideas presented were in-line with what we hoped we would hear. There is an opportunity to use technology to transform our construction processes to achieve some pretty dramatic efficiencies and reduce costs at the same time."

Among the most highly touted technologies is 3-D or solid modeling through which design is accomplished in ways which take into account not only the design but also construction sequencing, materials, engineering and even the operation and maintenance, or life-cycle of a project.

Congressman Randy Forbes, Chairman of the Congressional Modeling and Simulation Caucus said, "We were well aware of these advanced technologies having utilized them in the defense environment for years. It is now apparent that they have significant relevance in the construction and infrastructure world as well. We are looking forward to exploring utilization of these new technologies in more fields to come."

The meeting was hosted by DestinyUSA, a planned megadestination in Syracuse,N.Y., and was attended by executives from companies such as EMC, Dassault Systemes, Johnson & Higgins, MIT Media Lab, and McGraw - Hill.

M&S Caucus to host panel discussion at I/ITSEC 2005

The Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Caucus has been invited to hold a panel discussion on current issues within the Modeling & Simulation community at the I/ITSEC Conference scheduled from November 28 to December 1st, 2005 in Orlando, Florida. The panel discussion will be moderated by Congressman Randy Forbes, Chairman of the Modeling & Simulation Training Caucus, and will include a time for conference participants to pose questions to the panel which will be made up of other members of the M&S Caucus.
