ü Joined four members of the Virginia Congressional delegation in sending a letter to the Secretary of the Navy to inquire about the cost of the transfer of a Norfolk aircraft carrier to Florida, rather than remaining at the existing port in Norfolk.
ü Introduced a resolution, H. Res. 182, to commend and congratulate Virginia State University on its 125th Anniversary. VSU, located in Petersburg, Virginia, was founded on March 6, 1882, making it the first fully state-supported four-year institution of higher learning for African Americans. VSU has an enrollment of nearly 5,000 students and sustains a 236-acre main campus with more than 50 buildings, including 15 dormitories, 16 classroom buildings and a 416-acre agricultural research facility.
ü Sponsored "The Gangbuster Bill," H.R. 880, The Gang Deterrence and Community Protection Act of 2007. The bill is aimed at ripping apart criminal gang networks by increasing tools and resources for local, state, and federal police and mandating tough sentences for violent criminal gang acts. This bill previously passed the House of Representatives twice in the 109th Congress but failed to pass through the Senate.
ü Met with U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez to discuss the agenda for the House Judiciary Committee in the 110th Congress. Congressman Forbes outlined the importance of America's Law and Order Agenda to address rising youth and gang violence across the country.
ü Questioned witnesses at a Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security Subcommittee hearing on “Youth Violence and Gang Interventions.” Congressman Forbes, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee, had the opportunity to discuss the nationwide gang violence epidemic, prevention and intervention programs and law enforcement needs with experts from universities, law enforcement and community outreach programs. ü Cosponsored H.R. 332, which would prohibit the Social Security Administration from awarding Social Security benefits for unauthorized work of illegal immigrants. This immigration reform legislation would ensure earned Social Security benefits are only paid for work performed legally.

Holly's Law, H.R. 63, legislation that would ask for the withdrawal of
the approved application of the Federal Drug Administration for the drug
RU-486, dubbed "the morning-after pill," which is used for the
chemically-induced termination of pregnancy. The FDA has acknowledged the
deaths of eight women associated with the drug.
ü Voted for the Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2007, H.R. 976. This legislation would extend critical tax provisions for small business owners, extend the the work opportunity tax credit through 2008 and also aide the small businesses that would most feel the impact of a minimum wage increase.
