Congressional Art Competition - "An Artistic Discovery"
The
annual Congressional Art Competition is approaching again. Each
year the Congress sponsors the "An Artistic Discovery" art
competition where winning entries from each participating Congressional
District are hung in Washington, in the tunnel that connects the Cannon
House Office Building and the United States Capitol Building, a main
thoroughfare for Members, Staff, and visitors to the Capital Complex.
This
competition is open to High School in my district who can submit entries
to the competition to be judged at a time to be determined early this
summer.
Here
are the general guidelines for the competition as determined by the US
House of Representatives:

The
Competition is open to High School Students Only
-
Size
restrictions:
-
Project
must be 2 dimensional
-
Must
be within the dimensions of 30 inches by 30 inches to the
outside of the frame
-
It
must be no more than 4 inches in depth
-
The
winning entry will hang in the Cannon Tunnel for the entire year and
cannot be returned earlier
-
Artwork
categories which may be submitted are:
-
Paintings,
oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc
-
Drawings,
pastels, colored pencils, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers, etc
-
Collage
(must be 2 dimensional only)
-
Prints,
lithographs, silk screens, etc
-
Mixed
Media
-
Computer
generated art
-
Photographs
-
Each
entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and must
not violate any US Copy write law
Framing
Guidelines:
-
All
artwork other than oil paintings must be protected by a glass or
plexiglass frame
-
Frames
must be no larger than 30 in X 30 in and be no deeper than 4 inches
-
Frames
should be kept simple and sturdy, metal frames are suggested
-
No
"snap on" frames with glass will be accepted
-
Use
sturdy picture hangers. Two hooks should be attached to right
and left sides of the artwork
-
If
the artwork is of abstract design please indicate on the backside
which side is up with arrows
All
submissions must be accompanied by a signed student
release form.
