Frank Responds to Announcement of Canadian LNG Supply
July 16, 2009
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Barney Frank today reacted to a recent announcement that the Maritimes Pipeline, which supplies liquefied natural gas to the Northeast, has begun receiving gas from the Canaport LNG terminal in Saint John, New Brunswick. This represents the fourth major source of liquefied natural gas for Massachusetts residents.
“The announcement of this additional source of liquefied natural gas further weakens the position of those who want to build an LNG terminal in Fall River,” said Congressman Frank. “It is clear that there is no regional demand for an LNG facility in Fall River. Residents are being asked to carry an unfair burden for something that does not really benefit them.”
In addition to the Canaport LNG terminal, Massachusetts residents also receive natural gas from the Everett LNG terminal, the Excelerate Energy Terminal in Massachusetts Bay. In addition, Neptune LNG is currently building a new terminal ten miles offshore of Gloucester.
