Frank Praises Announcement of More “Stimulus” Funds for Southeastern Massachusetts
September 22, 2009
Washington, DC – The Obama administration today announced that more economic recovery (“stimulus”) funds have been designated for Southeastern Massachusetts.
Fall River and New Bedford will receive $1,232,852 and $1,228,020 respectively to fight homelessness. The funds are to be used to help provide short and medium-term rental assistance to help prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless.
New Bedford and Taunton will receive $802,671 and $236,442 respectively in Community Development Black Grants (CDBG), which are used to improve neighborhoods and support affordable housing.
“These funds are particularly important because the cities’ problems are not of their making,” said Congressman Frank. “This is an example of how adequately funding public programs can help improve our quality of life.”
The grants announced today are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 which was strongly supported by Congressman Frank, and which passed the House without a single Republican vote.
