Frank Praises Announcement of Grant to Brookline to Increase Energy Efficiency
September 30, 2009
WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Barney Frank today praised the decision by the U.S. Department of Energy to grant $494,400 to the town of Brookline under a program to increase energy efficiency.
“Brookline is very forward-looking,” said Congressman Frank, “and I applaud its efforts to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels. These grants, made under the stimulus bill, not only help our environment and decrease our dependence on foreign oil, they also help put us on the road to economic recovery.”
Brookline is one of only three Massachusetts towns to receive money under this DOE program during this funding cycle.
The grant is part of the “stimulus” bill, formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was signed into law last winter. Republicans were strongly critical of the bill despite the faltering economy, and the legislation passed the House last winter without a single Republican vote.
Congressman Frank was a strong supporter of the stimulus bill and he continues to advocate measures to rebuild the economy and to prevent another financial collapse.
