Question of the Week: Federal Deficit
These questions are culled from phone calls, letters, faxes and e-mails sent to my Thousand Oaks, Solvang, and Washington offices. Each week I will add another question and answer. Week ending September 18, 2009 • Question: How has the Administration’s budget and spending proposals affect the federal deficit and debt? → Answer: According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the federal deficit in 2019 will be $9.05 trillion. This is $5.91 trillion more than the CBO projected in January, before President Obama took office. According to the White House, the national debt will more than double in 10 years, from $12.1 trillion this year to $24.5 trillion in 2019.
