As you may know, the national transition to digital television (DTV) is June 12.
On that day, all full power television stations in the United States will stop analog broadcasts. Digital broadcasting will free up airwaves for use by emergency responders. Also, digital broadcasting may provide a clearer picture and more programming options.
This means that television sets receiving free TV using an antenna (“rabbit ears”) will not work after your local stations shut-off analog broadcasts on June 12, 2009. Television viewers with these sets that are not connected to a pay TV service need to purchase DTV converter boxes to ensure their TV sets continue to work. (TVs connected to cable, satellite, or other pay services do not require a TV converter box to receive programs.)
