April 18, 2002 HARMAN STATEMENT ON BOEING LAYOFFS-- "I am deeply disappointed and angered"
-- WASHINGTON D.C. - Congresswoman Harman today issued the following statement in response to reports that the Boeing Co. will lay off an additional 800 workers: "A few months ago I met with senior Boeing officials to discuss the pending layoffs of 1,100 Boeing employees in the South Bay. At that time, Boeing committed to retain a large, qualified work force in El Segundo, and to retain and reassign as many of the 1,100 workers as possible in El Segundo or at other Boeing facilities. El Segundo is a small town, and Boeing is a major employer. I am deeply
disappointed and angered. Boeing has broken its commitment to the hard
working people of El Segundo and to me personally with these additional
massive layoffs." ###
