--Over 150 Workers, Business Leaders and Elected Officials
Urged Company to Increase Workforce in El Segundo--

EL SEGUNDO - Concerned about the future of Boeing in El Segundo, Congresswoman Jane Harman and El Segundo Mayor Mike Gordon organized a community forum today. Recent company announcements indicate up to 1800 El Segundo workers could be out of work soon.

At the request of Congresswoman Harman, Jim Albaugh, President & CEO of Boeing Space and Communications,
attended the forum to respond to questions and address the crowd of more than 150 Boeing employees and El Segundo business owners and residents.

Jim Albaugh, President & CEO of Boeing Space and Communications, responds to questions as Rep. Harman and Mayor Mike Gordon look on.

Workers testified about lay-offs affecting older employees and possibly limiting their ability to benefit from retirement plans.

Harman urged Albaugh to give priority to displaced workers for any new hiring, consider restructuring Boeing resources to maintain a substantial workforce in El Segundo, and asked him to move new profit centers to the facility. Harman also discussed her efforts in Congress to promote a satellite export policy that balances national security with the need to support markets for innovative U.S. satellite companies.

Albaugh emphasized Boeing's commitment to the South Bay and stressed the company's desire to remain one of El Segundo's largest employers.
