Harman Announces Art Contest Winners

-- Theme of 2002 Competition: "Patriotism in the South Bay" --

MANHATTAN BEACH - Today, Rep. Harman announced the winners of the 21st annual Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery.

This annual competition is designed to spotlight the artistic talents of high school students across the nation.

"All of the students who entered the competition displayed both great talent and insight into how the memory of the attacks deeply affects America.

I am so proud of them for capturing the strong sense of patriotism in the South Bay as our nation wages a difficult war on terrorism," stated Harman.

"With 135 submissions, the competition was stiff," added Harman. "I'm glad I wasn't one of the judges."

Christine Costa's oil painting entitled Salute to America will be displayed as part of a national exhibition in the pedestrian walkway leading to the United States Capitol.
