June 20, 2002 Harman Convenes Bipartisan Forum On

WASHINGTON D.C. - Rep. Harman, Ranking Member on the House Intelligence Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security, today hosted a day-long forum at the U.S. Capitol for technology industry leaders. This event was organized by Harman as a follow up to previous technology forums that she held in Los Angeles to leverage the resources and ideas of the private sector to support the nation's homeland security efforts. "The companies I hosted at this conference are some of the best and the brightest - they are also among the most patriotic. Our nation needs their creative ideas and technologies in order to win the fight against terrorism "
"As we work to protect our nation from the continuing threat of terrorism, the technology industry must have a seat at the table," Harman added. "Our efforts will not succeed without the innovation and experience of the technology industry."
Approximately 130 CEOs from technology companies throughout America attended
the forum as guests of Harman and US Reps. Richard Burr (R-NC), Saxby
Chambliss (R-GA), Jim Davis (D-FL), Tom Davis (R-VA), Anna Eshoo (D-CA),
Ron Kind (D- WI), Mike Honda, (D-CA), Adam Smith
(D- WA) and Chris Shays (R-CT).
Congressional leaders and senior Administration officials participated
as panelists and workhop presenters. They briefed the business leaders
on procurement policies, emerging technologies and public-private partnerships
and solicited suggestions on the best ways to employ private sector technologies
and expertise in America's war on terrorism and homeland security.
Among the top-level Bush Administration representatives participating were: Governor Tom Ridge, Director, Office of Homeland Security, Richard Oarke, Special Advisor to the President for Cyberspace Security and Chairman of the President's Critical Infrastructure Board; and John Marburger, Director, Office of Science and Technology Policy. Representatives for the General Services Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Transportation Security Administration, Federal Communications Commission, Department of Commerce, General Accounting Office, Department of Defense and International Union of Police Associations also addressed the technology executives.
South Bay Representatives from more than two-dozen colporations were scheduled to participate, including: In-Q-Tel, Northrop-Grumman, Boeing, Raytheon, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Honeywell, Candle Colporation, TRW, Lockheed Martin, The Aerospace Corporation, and Motorola.
