WASHINGTON - I am thrilled that NOAA has awarded TRW a $4.5 billion dollar contract to build, deploy and monitor the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS).

This next generation satellite system is critical to supporting a wide-range of missions for the Defense Department in protecting our nation and conducting operations abroad, including intelligence gathering.

Clearly, this award is a vote of confidence in TRW's aerospace expertise and ability to build high quality satellites, many that directly assist in our homeland security. But even more importantly, this contract brings with it the promise of hundreds of new jobs and economic growth for the South Bay.
