Harman Congratulates El Segundo All-Stars For Winning The World Series

EL SEGUNDO - The El Segundo High School baseball diamond was brimming with activity Saturday morning as U.S. Congresswoman Jane Harman (D-Redondo Beach) offered her congratulations to the El Segundo Babe Ruth All-Star Team.

The team, made up of players ages 13-15 from the South Bay, won the Babe Ruth Baseball League's World Series in Connersville, Indiana this past August. The team was also undefeated throughout the entire series of tournament play.

"These kids are like the Angels in the playoffs this year," said Harman. "I am so proud that such a world class team lives, practices, and plays in our community."

As winners of the World Series, the El Segundo team name and the name of the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, Sean McNally (El Segundo High School student, age 15), will be added to a permanent plaque in the Baseball Hall-of-Fame in Cooperstown.

Harman presented Certificates of Congressional Commendation to each of the players as well as to the coaches and manager of the team. The team gave Harman a championship t-shirt signed by each of the All-Star players commemorating their big win. Certificates were also awarded to the 13-year old All-Star team, which won the California State Championship before being eliminated in the Regional Championship Tournament.

The national Babe Ruth League, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, ranks as one of the premier amateur baseball and softball programs in the world. El Segundo Babe Ruth Baseball All-Star Team is comprised of five regular season teams with players from the communities of El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne and Redondo Beach. League games take place in May and June.
