Hinchey To Address Community Forum On The Future Of Social Security

Sullivan County Senior Legislative Action Committee To Host Saturday, February 12 Event

Loch Sheldrake, NY - In an effort to help keep the residents of Sullivan County up-to-date on the continuing debate over Social Security, Congressman Maurice Hinchey will speak at a free community forum on the topic on Saturday, February 12 from 1:00-3:00pm at Sullivan County Community College (SCCC).  Hinchey will join Trudi Renwick, the senior economist with the Fiscal Policy Institute, and Professor Thomas Lambert of SCCC, as the afternoon's speakers.  The forum will include presentations to be followed by a question and answer opportunity with the forum's speakers.

"I encourage all the residents of Sullivan and Orange counties and the surrounding area to come out and attend what promises to be an interesting, engaging, and important community forum on Social Security," Hinchey said. "I feel very strongly that we need to protect Social Security, make it stronger, and derail any attempts to privatize what is the most successful social program in our nation's history.  During this forum we will have an open and honest discussion on the current state of Social Security and its future outlook as well as what this all means for New York residents."

The Sullivan County Senior Legislative Action Committee is hosting the event, which is also being sponsored by SCCC, Sullivan County Office for the Aging, Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency, Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency, Sullivan Peace and Justice, Somos la Llave del Futuro, Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation, Sullivan County NAACP, Tri-Valley AARP #1604, AARP Chapter #2181 - Eldred, Bethel Sullivan AARP #1452, Ellenville NAACP, Rehabilitation Support Services -- Orange-Sullivan Division, Fiscal Policy Institute, NYS Alliance for Retired Americans, and NY Statewide Senior Legislative Action Council.
